Les Misérables: The Story of Jean Valjean

After nearly two decades of grueling imprisonment, Jean Valjean is released, burdened by rage and a profound sense of injustice, leaving him a wary, volatile man. When he finally reaches a small village in Provence, he finds himself shunned and turned away by its inhabitants. Desperate and directionless, he stumbles into the home of Bishop Bienvenu, who shares a humble life with his sister and a lone servant. To his surprise, they respond with generosity and warmth, causing Valjean’s hardened heart to waver. Despite this kindness, he succumbs to his past and takes the Bishop’s silverware, expecting retribution. However, when apprehended by the police, the Bishop chooses compassion over punishment and gifts Valjean the candlesticks instead, sparking a remarkable transformation in him. Valjean embarks on a journey of redemption.
