South Africa Weather for Today & Tomorrow Update
South Africa can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies and cool conditions across much of the country today, although central and northeastern regions will be warmer. Very isolated showers and thundershowers may develop ahead of a cold front that is set to make landfall on Tuesday. As a significant cut-off low forms on Saturday, a band of showers and thunderstorms will emerge over the Northern Cape Province, spreading eastward into the Western and later the Eastern Cape Province. The South African Weather Service has issued Yellow Level 2 warnings for severe thunderstorms—bringing the risk of heavy rain, hail, strong gusty winds, and frequent lightning—in the eastern parts of the central and eastern Northern Cape Province and the Beaufort West area of the Western Cape Province, where localized flooding of roads, bridges, and settlements is possible. Furthermore, a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain is in effect for western parts of the Eastern Cape Province, where persistent downpours could lead to additional flooding through Sunday. Residents are urged to stay updated on forecasts and take precautions in areas prone to adverse weather and flooding.

Watch this video as Firstpost explains how tensions have escalated across major South African cities, including Johannesburg, Durban, and Soweto, as anti-migrant protests turned violent. Demonstrators targeted foreign-owned businesses, torched vehicles, and clashed with riot police, who deployed rubber bullets and stun grenades to regain control. The surge in civil unrest follows widespread backlash against a Constitutional Court ruling permitting undocumented asylum seekers to submit applications. In response to deteriorating conditions, the Department of Home Affairs temporarily suspended processing directives, while officials clarified that the court's legal mandate remains intact. Amid mounting safety concerns, the US Embassy in Pretoria issued an urgent security alert, urging American citizens to avoid protest hotspots, monitor local news, and plan alternative travel routes. While the US travel advisory remains at Level 2, authorities stay on high alert as President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government works to balance constitutional obligations with restoring public order and easing community frustration over strained public resources. Josh Barnes brings you more on this story on Firstpost Africa.

History of Germany In 5 Minutes
This video presents a brief history of Germany, one of the most powerful countries in the world.

Chapter:
00:00 Introduction
00:31 Early History
01:57 German Confederation and German Empire
03:17 The Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany
04:30 Post World War II and Reunification of Germany

By the time of Roman general Julius Caesar, the Germanic people, or “Germani” were established east of the Rhine River in the lands he referred to as “Germania”.

Areas that remained out of Roman control were referred to as “Magna Germania.”

In the 4th century, the Roman Empire was invaded by different tribes, eventually leading to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD.

In 800, the Frankish king Charlemagne was crowned emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of which German territories formed a central part.

Following a defeat by Napoleon I, in 1806, the empire was dissolved.

Napoleon's reign came to an end in 1815 with the Congress of Vienna, forming the German Confederation, a loose league of 39 sovereign German states, most notably of which were the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia.

In 1866, war broke out between Austria and Prussia and ended with the victory of Prussia, leading to the collapse of the German Confederation.

In 1867, the North German Confederation was formed, paving the way for the formation of the German Empire.

In 1914, Germany led the Central Powers in World War I against the Allied Powers.

Following its defeat five years later, Germany was severely punished by the Treaty of Versailles, leading to the loss of 13% of its European territory.
The German Revolution ended the German Empire and established the Weimar Republic.

Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party, was appointed Chancellor and then Dictator of Germany, beginning the transformation of the Weimar Republic into Nazi Germany.

In 1939, the Nazis invaded Poland, initiating World War II.

During the war, the Holocaust led by the Nazis murdered 17 million people across German-occupied Europe, of which 6 million were Jews.

Following Hitler's suicide, Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945, marking the end of World War II in Europe.

Germany was partitioned into four occupation zones, and in May 1949, the France, US, and Great Britain occupation zones were merged to form the Federal Republic of Germany or West Germany. Meanwhile, the Soviet zone became the German Democratic Republic or East Germany.

The Berlin Wall was built to divide East Berlin from West Berlin.

Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, in 1990, the “Two Plus Four” Treaty was negotiated, allowing the official reunification of Germany later that year.

What do you think is the reason why Adolf Hiter committed suicide before the end of WWII?

🔴FRANCE Protest LIVE: France Erupts in Protest Over Rising Costs | Macron Under Pressure | CNBC TV18
Live coverage of a protest march in Paris against high living costs, rising fuel prices, public spending cuts and poor school conditions and teacher shortages.
PARIS - "Yellow Vests" call for protests again following two weekend protests that drew tens of thousands to the streets including students, teachers and other workers.
Live from central Paris where students take to the streets to demand improved school and education conditions, and against the government. It comes after a demonstration ban by French authorities put in place after a weekend of violent clashes and looting - it was later lifted.
France is preparing for another day of demonstrations on Saturday, with 70,000 police officers being deployed to prevent a repeat of the violence that erupted during protests earlier this month.
Reuters reported that the rallies, coinciding with Halloween, are being organised by students, trade unions and members of the Yellow Vest movement over rising living costs, fuel prices and deteriorating public services.
Authorities have warned of a high risk of violence, particularly as some gatherings could continue into the night.
In a development, France's top court has overturned a lower court's decision allowing protesters to march from Bastille to Place de la Nation in central Paris.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that "illegitimate" protests would be banned in the coming days, while those from organised groups such as unions would be offered alternative paths for the marches to protect businesses. The government has said it will put French soldiers in the street after rioting and looting broke out on the fringes of mass peaceful demonstrations over the weekend. Follow our liveblog for the latest updates.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he would convene a defence council meeting on Friday ahead of mass demonstrations planned for 24 October, following weekend protests that erupted into some of the country’s worst street violence in years.
The French president said only demonstrations organised by trade unions would be authorised nationwide on Saturday. He added that prefects, the government’s regional representatives, could ban unauthorised gatherings, particularly those organised by groups lacking the “legitimacy” to do so.
Macron also condemned what he described as “sedition” by far-left groups, warning they posed a “grave danger” to the Republic. He denounced the “criminal acts” committed during the unrest and called for “extreme measures” in response.
